On the creative cutting edge, Stephen
Koury's works have earned him national acclaim as "The Painter Of Little
Jewels". Fresh vibrantly detailed renderings of nature reveal an intimacy
between artist and subject that can only be acquired through actual indepth field
experience. Stephen reads and researches extensively, followed by watching and
photographing each bird, mammal, flower, and vine. Driven by passion and dedicated
to the animals and their surroundings, |
|
| Stephen feels "I need to
know how they move, how they interact, what they sound, smell, and feel like, I get jazzed
by being there with them and thrive on the intimacy of knowing the subject."Stephen
was born in Holbrook, Arizona. He began painting at his father's insistence, an art
instructor in Arizona, who supplied him with brushes, canvasses, and paints, throughout
the years. When not playing sports, his time was spent in the hills of
Arizona. Later, while attending The University of Wyoming, he combined his two loves
in life-the mountains of Wyoming and baseball. |
| |
| He spent eight years as a college baseball
coach, first at Wyoming and then at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida where he
now resides. During this time Stephen continued to paint and develop his technique,
and his paintings began to draw noticeStephens art continues to draw acclaim
nationally and internationally with collectors such as General H. Norman Schwarzkopf,
progolfer Andy Bean, and actor Clint Eastwood. |

| Recently, Stephen has
finished a book for North Light books called "Painting Natures Little
Creatures" due out at the end of March 2002. He was also featured in the
book; "60 Contemporary Masters And Their Work" 2001. Stephen was
nominated into the prestigious Society Of Animal Artists out of New York and was a
Millennium Featured Artist for the Florida Wildlife and Western Art Exposition
2000. Summer '98 he led African photo safari's for the Southeastern Wildlife
Exposition and was named Florida Ducks Unlimited Sponsor Print Artist 96/97. One of
the great naturalists of his time Stephen feels, "To capture and share the beauty of
nature as it really is through art, while also helping heighten our awareness of these
"critters" and the environment we share, that is why I do what I do."
