On the creative cutting edge, Stephen
Koury's works have earned him national acclaim as "The Painter Of Little
Jewels". Fresh vibrantly detailed renderings of nature that seem
to jump right off of the painting. Driven by passion and dedicated
for the animals and their habitat. Stephen feels that he must see
the creature in the wild. |
|
| "I need to
know how they move, interact, what they sound like, how they smell, and
where they live, I get jazzed
by being there with them and thrive on the intimacy of knowing the subject."
This has led Stephen to Africa, Central and South America, and all over
North America and helps provide the fuel for the creative fires that burn
so strongly within him.
Stephen
was born in Holbrook, Arizona. He loved the pencil and sketched from
an early age. He began painting, using oils at his father's insistence,
a former art
instructor and an artist in his own right in Arizona. His father kept
him supplied with brushes, canvasses, and paints, throughout his college
years. When not playing sports or roaming the woods, Stephen's
favorite pastime was painting. He graduated with a B.S. and a M.S. Degree
from the University of Wyoming where he combined two loves in his life,
playing and coaching baseball and the mountains of Wyoming.
Stephen spent eight years as a college baseball coach, first at Wyoming
then at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida. During this
time Stephen continued to paint and develop and refine his technique,
switching from oils to Gouache, his paintings began to draw notice.

| Stephen’s art continues to
draw acclaim nationally and internationally with collectors such as
General H. Norman Schwarzkopf, pro-golfer Andy Bean, and actor Clint Eastwood.
His paintings and biographies have shown in US
Art, Wildlife Art, InformArt, and Sporting Classics Magazines, as well as
Ducks Unlimited and Florida and South Carolina Wildlife Magazines.
He has led African Photo safaris for the Southeastern Wildlife Expo,
judged the state of Florida Audubon contest, named Florida's Ducks
Unlimited Artist of the year three times, national print artist for Quail
Unlimited, and was juried into the prestigious Society of Animal Artists
1999. |

| Stephen
authored his first book, the very successful "Painting Natures Little
Creatures" in 2002. This has led to teaching
workshops, the most recent of which at the New York Botanical
Gardens.
Stephen has been called one of the great naturalists of his time
by writer Jim Barger. US Art named him as an international rising
star, "His works are pushing the boundaries of wildlife
art." The Southeastern Wildlife Expo says "Stephen is on a
rocket ship to the top of the wildlife art world." He and his
works can be found in the book, "Wildlife Art: 60 Contemporary
Masters and Their Work", published out of New York. One of the
great lovers of nature, a self taught naturalist, Stephen says, "This
is what I am, and what I am supposed to do, to capture and share the
beauty of nature as it really is through my art, while also helping
increase our awareness of the critters and the environments we share, what
a wonderful thing to have to do!"
