This is a favorite time of day, the suns gone down and the chill of evening hasn't set in. This is when I'm usually heading home and the walk is always eventful, early owls, and late birds. The sky in the fall and winter seem to be clearer, the stars almost touchable.

An early morning in the woods, waiting for the gobbler to come across the field, only to realize he had headed the other way. So we packed up and start walking out, as we turned the corner guess who's walking towards us. We all get spooked a little, at least we weren't the ones that ran and this painting came from that meeting. The light and how it plays among the trees and the shadows across the road, is really appealing. These same shadows act to deepen the painting, pushing the turkeys back. The turkey's placement tells the viewer that they have also just turned the corner and they also serve as a size reference.

"MORNING FLIGHT" 16"x36" limited edition canvas giclee'
There is so much that attracted me to this scene that it's hard to pin point what really started me on this piece. The greens along rivers vary, but there is a time of year when it is such a fresh vibrant green that it makes your soul soar! You can feel the growth and health of the environment and it feels good to your core to be there, this river was at that time. Into these living greens come the beautiful white egrets, living glowing reminders of what this place should look like. I wanted to fill this painting with these graceful birds and to move the viewers focus from right to left as the deparing birds moved down the river. Paintings this size are really time intensive, which means all the time and love that I put into it as the artist becomes a gamble...... you know what you are trying to do, but you are not sure it will happen and by now you have so much into it. So you sweat it, and you keep working, staring, working, staring, wondering, hoping... then one day it pops! This one pops!
