Royal terns are so elegant; they are incredible fliers with beautiful plumage. They flock in large groups on the beaches and fuss at each other continually. This fussy behavior is the basis for this painting and highlights how paintings are born. Watching wildlife opens doors to behaviors and habits that the various critters exhibit, these lead to ideas... creative ideas that lead to paintings.

These egrets against the still waters were really appealing to me.

A full grown Whitetail Buck looks back to see what has spooked the egrets in the field behind him. This buck was really appealing, he carried himself very well. The light in this painting is really nice and the shadow on his back is a real bonus for me. In fact, the light playing across his body and the grasses really drew me to paint this buck.
