"BARN OWL" by Stephen Koury 14"x16"matted limited edition print The barn owl has these dark mysterious eyes that seem to be bottomless. I try to capture a little bit of their essence when I do the portraits, their bodies are almost weightless, consisting mainly of feathers, yet they are wonderfully strong predators.
"THE LOOK" by Stephen Koury 14"x16" matted limited edition reproduction Great Horned owls are the big dog of the avian predator world, holding precedence over red tailed hawks, etc. basically no one messes with them. This particular bird seemed so strong and confident. We walked up on him in a cedar tree with a mountain of pellets below, he was obviously eating well. I wouldn't of noticed him if he had held still. Its great going through the contents of the disgorged pellets, they proide a record of the prey items that are in the area. You can find tiny jaw bones and teeth, very cool stuff.
"SPIRIT" by Stephen Koury 23"x16" matted limited edition print Harris Hawk with Petrogylphs I grew up in Northern Arizona and spent a great deal of time in the canyons and dry washes of the southwest, these glyphs are everywhere. There are canyons that have glyphs from several generations of people, and some are very powerful. This piece is one of those powerful panels with a wonderfully aware Harris Hawk. The painting was meant to be intimate and the eye contact with the bird brings the feeling home. framed $265 FRAMED OPTIONS
