”THE BEACH ”
by STEPHEN KOURY
Original 28x20 Gouache and Acrylic $11,500
This could be any number of places along the gulf, with a group of departing water birds. The Spoonbills are fabulous, and wonderful to paint. They may look pink but it’s the subtle hues that make them believable, living pink is actually very difficult to paint. I accomplish it by plying layer upon layer of color washes. The color washes are synergistic, each multiplying the effect of the prior wash.

”MORNING GLORY MORNING”, Downey Woodpecker
by STEPHEN KOURY
Comparable 12x24 Gouache and Acrylic original painting can be commissioned for $6200
This painting was in my studio for years. I had the reference and I knew I wanted to paint a Downey Woodpecker. So I started the painting, yet I just wasn’t sure of the vines and the placement of the Morning glories so I stopped and put the piece aside. Every now and then I would look at it, about a month ago something clicked, I just knew what to do and I am really proud of the finished piece.

”TRI-COLORED HUNTER”
by STEPHEN KOURY
Comparable 12x24 Gouache and Acrylic original painting can be commissioned for $3200
A Tri-Colored Heron and a Leopard Frog. I happen to really like Tri-Colored Herons. They have the same ability as all Herons, focus! But, to watch one hunting is memorable, they not only actively hunt, they employ the shade method! They spread their wings while wading and hold very still, hoping a small fish or two will think that the shadow holds shelter, not quite!
"Emeralds & Orchids"

Original 16x20 gouache with clear acrylic on composition board.
Comparable original painting, same size can be commissioned for $10,500.00
”MORNING FLIGHT”
by STEPHEN KOURY
Original 36x16 Gouache and Acrylic
There is so much that attracted me to this scene that it’s hard to pin point what really started me on this piece. The greens along rivers are so varied, but there is a time of year when it is such a fresh vibrant green that it makes your soul soar! You can feel the growth and health of the environment and it feels good to your core to be there, this river was at that time. Into these living greens come the beautiful white egrets, living glowing reminders of what this place should look like. I wanted to fill this painting with these graceful birds and to move the viewer’s focus from right to left as the departing birds moved down the river. Paintings this size are really time intensive, which means all the time and love that I put into it as the artist becomes a gamble… you know what you are trying to do, but you are not sure it will happen and by now you have so much into it. So you sweat it, and you keep working, staring, working, staring, wondering, hoping… then one day it pops! This one pops!
Comparable original painting, same size can be commissioned for $12,500
”WISDOM”
by STEPHEN KOURY
30 X 48 original
African Bull Elephant, Forked Tail Drongo and one Ant.
I have had a couple of close encounters with Elephants while in Africa, all of them ending well, leaving me amazed at how intelligent the massive animals are! I initially met this guy head on, we were down wind when we unexpectedly met, we surprised him, his reaction was to mock charge, become as large as he could and kick up a lot of dust. Our job was to hold our ground, hoping it was a mock charge. When he stopped, and thank goodness he did, I instinctively knew that he wasn't upset, his eyes were calm and knowing. The Elephant had made his point and was wise enough to know we meant him know harm, brilliant!
Comparable original painting, same size can be commissioned for $29,500
