Bright and colorful, which is easy for me! I love painting flowers and hummingbirds.
I felt that Trumpet Vine, which grows wild throughout the country, and Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds would be a good match. I finished the painting, which includes twenty little critters. The museum reproduced it as a poster and loved it!

This little guy is usually an early visitor to the mountains where we live in the summer. They show up after the Broadtails and begin staking out their territories. The females arrive later and courtship begins. The paintbrush in this piece is another variety called Rosy Paintbrush and it usually is found near stream banks and in wetlands.

Hummingbirds are magical, shimmering little fairies zipping about. The Broadtail is a very common bird in the western US. The Indian Paintbrush is present in at least three forms, this being the red or Wyoming Paintbrush.
