”CORAL BEAUTY”
by STEPHEN KOURY
Limited Edition Giclee’ 9X18
Coral snakes are living jewelry, these timid beauties would much rather avoid us; finding the alternative is usually not in their best interest. They are under tremendous strain in today’s Florida, not only contending with us but also the invasive Fire Ants, which decimate their nests. The critter in this piece almost melts into the ground cover, which was my plan. Notice how the colors of the snake repeat in the surrounding environment serving to help blend him into the setting. This is one of my favorite ground shot pieces ever, there is so much about it that is artsy, yet it highlights a critter that we should learn more about and protect.

"LEARNING THE GAME"

18"x9" limited edition canvas giclee'
We found this baby Gator in a little waterhole and put him in a wheel barrow with a little water while I sketched and photographed him. Young gators have a protective coloring that kind of mimics dappled light and I remember being struck by how really handsome he was. This painting was the result and it's included in my book "Painting Nature's Little Creatures".
