Great Horned owls are the big dog of the avian predator world, holding precedence over red tailed hawks, etc. basically no one messes with them. This particular bird seemed so strong and confident. We walked up on him in a cedar tree with a mountain of pellets below, he was obviously eating well. I wouldn't of noticed him if he had held still. Its great going through the contents of the disgorged pellets, they proide a record of the prey items that are in the area. You can find tiny jaw bones and teeth, very cool stuff.
