This male Painted Bunting is a somewhat secretive bird, preferring the underbrush and thick cover to open spaces. The painting reflects this behavior as the male forages among wild grape. The bird is away from the center of the painting to increase emphasis on the vines and the play of light on it. This image is part of "The Little Jewels Series" and was featured on the Florida Wildlife Expositions commemorative wine bottle label.
