Coral snakes are living jewelry, these timid beauties would much rather avoid humans, finding our actions are usually not in their best interest. They are under tremendous strain today, not only contending with us but also the invasive fire ants which decimate their nests. The critter in this piece almost melts into the ground cover, which was my plan.
Notice how the colors of the snake repeat in the surrounding environment serving to help blend him into the setting. This is one of my favorite ground shot pieces ever, there is so much about it that is artsy, yet it highlights a critter that we should learn more about and protect.
