Rubies and Trumpets

Daniel Stetson, then director of the Polk Museum approached me about painting an image for the poster for Mayfaire, the Museums annual art show. He asked that it be bright and colorful, easy for me! I love painting flowers and hummingbirds, I felt that trumpet vine which grows wild throughout the country and ruby-throated hummingbirds would be good match. “Rubies and Trumpets” is a typical Stephen Koury painting and includes twenty little critters along with the male and female Ruby Throated hummingbirds. The Museum reproduced it as a poster for their Mayfaire Art Show and loved it!
