Great horned owls are one of the big dogs of the avian predator world, holding precedence even over red-tailed hawks. Basically no one really messes with them. This particular bird seemed so strong and confident. We walked up on him in a cedar tree with a mountain of pellets below, he was obviously eating well. I wouldn’t of noticed him if he had held still. It’s great going through the contents of the disgorged pellets; they provide a record of the prey items that are in the area. You will find tiny jaw bones and teeth, very cool discoveries!
